About
Hi! I'm Julia McGuigan formerly known as Julia Mason.
I'm an illustrator, educator, momma & wife.
As a young girl I spent time crafting alongside my Mother who is also an artist. Scrapbooking, creating compositions with collage, pottery & illustration have always been hobbies I've enjoyed throughout life. Not much has changed since those days.
In high school I knew I wanted to be an art teacher. I went on to pursue my B.A. of Science in Education from University of Nebraska at Omaha. During that time I also studied art and Spanish at Veritas Universidad in San Jose, Costa Rica in 2014. My inspirations come from those travels & details in architecture. During my time abroad I loved seeing illustrators who were depicting their communities in their art.
This motivated me to come back to Omaha & start illustrating our city.
In 2015 I started illustrating neighborhoods in Omaha and creating reproductions of my work to sell at local markets. In 2020 while teaching art in Omaha Public Schools I started to pursue my M.A. in Illustration from Savannah College of Art and Design. In the Summer of 2023 I graduated from SCAD.
When I am not selling my work at the shop or markets I am spending time with my little blended family of 4. My husband and our two boys enjoy lots of documentaries, days at the lake or park, picnics & supporting our local coffee shops.
