Ink & Wildflowers: Drawing Nebraska Native Flowers
Couldn't load pickup availability
Join us for a relaxed evening of drawing and nature at the Benson Community Garden! We will observe the beauty of Nebraska’s native wildflowers as we create inked flower illustrations.
In this beginner-friendly workshop, artist Julia McGuigan will guide participants through the process of creating a detailed botanical drawing using a variety of ink pens. You’ll learn how to draw from observation through guided drawing exercises. Next, you’ll explore shading techniques that bring depth and value to your work. Julia will demonstrate each step with modeled and guided instruction as you work from a real wildflower.
Before the workshop begins, a gardener from the Benson Community Garden will share a brief introduction to the garden and its mission in the community.
All materials will be provided. No drawing experience is necessary—this class welcomes all styles and skill levels, though it is designed with beginners in mind. The focus is on observation, creativity, and enjoying the process!
By the end of the evening, you’ll leave with your own finished ink illustration inspired by Nebraska’s native flora, along with a few seeds for your own garden.
Since we’ll be creating around dinner time, feel free to bring a snack and your own beverage to enjoy while you draw. Picnics are welcome!
Rain Date: In the event that we have to cancel due to severe weather, you will be contacted via email. The rain date is Thursday, May 28th, from 5:00–6:30 pm.
